Of all the puppets, the most celebrated is Punch and Judy, which first appeared in Britain towards the end of the seventeenth century, which could be either string or glove. By the nineteenth century they became linked to the great British summer and the seaside as well as traditional fair booths. Such a strong connection with the summer gave Horsham Museum the ideal excuse, if one was needed, to have a fun exhibition on puppets called String, Shadow and Glove.
