Of all the puppets, the most celebrated is Punch and Judy, which first appeared in Britain towards the end of the seventeenth century, which could be either string or glove. By the nineteenth century they became linked to the great British summer and the seaside as well as traditional fair booths. Such a strong connection with the summer gave Horsham Museum the ideal excuse, if one was needed, to have a fun exhibition on puppets called String, Shadow and Glove.

Teddy Bears' Picnics

At South Downs Light Railway on 4th/5th September about 100 teddy bears will be having picnics and they invite families to join them. Every child bringing a teddy bear will receive a free train ride. There will be a Hunt the Teddy Competition;every child spotting all 15 named bears will receive a teddy bear biscuit and will be entered into a free daily draw to win a big teddy bear.
